Regulatory role of pyroptosis in the tumor microenvironment. In several cancers, pyroptosis promotes tumor progression by inducing a pro-tumor immune microenvironment via inflammatory cytokines, such as (A) IL-1β, (B) IL-18, and (C) HMGB1. However, pyroptosis induces an anti-tumor immune microenvironment in some other cancers in the same manner (D–F).
